Inspiring Digital and Media Careers at the BBC

The BBC opened its doors to Whalley Range and Levenshulme on Thursday 3rd of March 2016 to promote diversity within the media and digital industries.

40 Year 8 students from Whalley Range 11-18 High School and Levenshulme High School for Girls (schools within the Education and Leadership Trust) were invited to visit the modern BBC Dock House building in Media City for a bespoke careers event aimed specifically at girls.

Inspirational women from the BBC were on hand to deliver sessions promoting opportunities in Coding, Systems Analysis, and Graphic Design and a whole range of other media opportunities at the BBC, all aimed at girls. The students took an active role in the sessions interviewing BBC staff and then delivering confident pitches in front of an audience.

The BBC is such an amazing place to work with amazing opportunities for young leading women. Nicola Crowther (Diversity Events Manager at the BBC)

We’d like to thank the BBC for putting on this valuable and inspiring session, which will have given our students a fantastic insight in to career opportunities in the media and digital industries.
